Luxembourg City, March 3, 2026 – Paul Yon has been appointed General Director of Médecins Sans Frontières Luxembourg. Mr. Yon took up his position at the head of MSF Luxembourg’s executive team on March 1, 2026.
After completing university studies in English and Mandarin, Mr. Yon began his career in humanitarian work with several non-governmental organizations, leading health projects in India, Haiti, Iraq, and the Caucasus region. He joined Médecins Sans Frontières in 2003. As Country Director, he worked in numerous humanitarian and health crisis contexts, notably in Myanmar, Syria, Iraq, North Korea, Chad, Burundi, and Sudan.
In 2017, Mr. Yon continued his commitment within the MSF movement as International Association Coordinator with the presidency of Médecins Sans Frontières International. In 2021, he joined the teams in Abidjan to contribute to the creation of MSF’s first Operational Center outside Europe, serving as Director of Communications and the Association. In recent years, he has also overseen projects in West and Central Africa as well as in Pakistan.
Convinced from an early age that he wanted to commit to MSF, Mr. Yon emphasizes:
From the age of 15, I knew that I wanted to work with Médecins Sans Frontières. Being part of an organization that supports populations affected by conflicts, epidemics, or natural disasters is both a profound responsibility and a deep source of motivation.”
Reflecting on his field experience, he adds: “After difficult months in a crisis setting, when a patient thanks the teams for having been able to give birth in dignified conditions, we know that our commitment truly makes sense.” He also points out that, in a world marked by stark inequalities, “defending equitable access to healthcare remains a fundamental imperative.”
Mr. Yon became more closely acquainted with MSF Luxembourg in 2025 during the section’s General Assembly. After becoming a member of the association, he subsequently applied for the position of General Director.
“I am honored to join a dynamic and committed team at a key moment in its history,” he states, as MSF Luxembourg celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
It is an opportunity to build on the progress achieved while strengthening our contribution to the MSF movement’s medical-humanitarian projects.”
“We are very pleased to welcome Paul Yon as the new General Director of MSF Luxembourg,” says Engy Ali, President of MSF Luxembourg.
His more than twenty years of experience within the MSF movement and his in-depth knowledge of operational contexts will be valuable assets in meeting the challenges ahead.”
Mr. Paul Yon succeeds Mr. Thomas Kauffman, who had held the position since September 2022.
