Following the quake, Herat Regional Hospital received 117 injured patients in the emergency room by 9:45 am, and it is expected that more patients will arrive in the coming hours as the epicentre was in the remote districts outside Herat City. To help accommodate the influx of patients, our team in the hospital set up four additional tents.
Three will be used for admission of stabilized and post-surgical patients, while one tent will serve as a triage area for incoming wounded individuals.
This brings to 10 the total number of tents sent up by MSF for the earthquake response.
Some of the tents are joined up to make bigger halls in different parts of the hospital compound.
