Global mapathon: support humanitarian action directly from Luxembourg
In 1 click, help us spread this information :
How can you contribute to MSF's work from a distance? Take part in our mapathon!
At the end of November, join us for a mapathon and contribute to the humanitarian actions of our teams in the field, without leaving Luxembourg. This mapathon is part of Geography Awareness Week (or Geo week) and a series of events organized by different sections of the Médecins Sans Frontières movement, to maximize our collective impact.
What (for) is a Mapathon?
A Mapathon is a participatory mapping workshop that provides direct support to MSF operations in a given area, by tracing roads, waterways or building outlines. The maps thus produced are an important tool for decision-making, planning logistical requirements, communication and support for operations, such as optimizing epidemiological surveillance and coordination with other organizations.
Who is a mapathon for?
Mapathons are free, open to all, and require no previous skills. To take part, all you need is a bit of time on your hands and a computer (which can be provided if required). On site, you'll learn how to use digital mapping tools and analyze geospatial data.
If you're taking part for the first time, rest assured that a team of volunteers will be on hand to support you! We'll also be on hand to give you some background information on the area being mapped and the contribution you can make. A tutorial will also be e-mailed to you in advance of the event, with detailed practical information.
