This school year, MSF invites students to take on its inter-school Ebola challenge

As the 2026-2027 school year begins, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Luxembourg is launching a new edition of its (R)éveil humanitaire competition and inviting upper-secondary classes across the Grand Duchy to take on an awareness-raising challenge focusing on a humanitarian crisis that often receives little attention.
This year, students will be invited to explore Ebola and develop their own campaign to raise awareness of the crisis and its implications.

By entrusting students with part of its mission to bear witness, MSF encourages them to take an active role in their learning by developing an awareness-raising campaign. MSF teams support them throughout the competition, providing a detailed presentation of the topic, resources, a timeline and guidance as their projects progress. The challenge, done with the support of L'Œuvre Nationale, can be completed in French or English.

The choice of theme reflects the current situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where MSF has been carrying out an emergency response for more than three months. The organisation is particularly concerned about major gaps in the international response to the spread of the Ebola epidemic, which has already killed around half of the 6,000 people who have contracted the disease in the eastern part of the country.

The competition is open to upper-secondary classes, for students aged 15 to 19. Each teacher registers their class, after which students are supported by MSF Luxembourg teams in designing and carrying out their project.
The different stages of the competition will take place from November 2026 to April 2027:
- November: MSF Luxembourg classroom session and presentation of the topic and the key issues of the competition;
- December-January: students prepare their awareness-raising campaign projects;
- February: presentation of the projects to a jury of MSF experts;
- March: young people launch their awareness-raising campaigns;
- March-April: prizes awarded by the jury.
During the 2025-2026 school year, 119 students from six Luxembourg schools took part in the competition, which focused on HIV among young people. The CLIJA-1 class from Lycée Classique de Diekirch, the winning group in that edition, was rewarded with a visit to MSF Supply, MSF’s supply centre in Brussels.
Their campaign, “Fighting HIV: Together for Health”, is currently on display at the National Museum of Resistance and Human Rights in Esch-sur-Alzette.
