Israeli authorities are committing genocide in Gaza

Last updated: August 30, 2025

Since October 2023, Israeli forces have killed more than 64,000 people in Gaza and the West Bank, including over 18,000 children, and another 170,000 have been injured, according to the WHO. An estimated 44,000 children are now orphaned.

The deliberate actions of Israeli forces clearly demonstrate that their objective is the destruction of all Palestinian life. Through mass killings and displacement, the destruction of vital civilian infrastructure, and blockades blocking access to food, water, medicine, and other essential humanitarian supplies, Israeli authorities are deliberately and systematically destroying the basic living conditions of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Military Action

By destroying vital civilian infrastructure, such as hospitals, shelters, schools, as well as food production capacity and other basic livelihood facilities like water treatment plants, the Israeli authorities are deliberately and systematically destroying the conditions necessary for Palestinian life in Gaza.

There is no safe space in Gaza, as Israel's deliberate, indiscriminate, and ruthless military action demonstrates its targeting of the entire population and the application of collective punishment. Israeli military actions have repeatedly targeted civilians, with attacks leaving entire neighborhoods in ruins and families devastated.

The healthcare system in Gaza has been decimated, with nearly 1,000 healthcare workers killed since October 2023, and hospitals unable to function under the relentless bombardment. Since October 2023, with the exception of a few weeks of truce, no one has been spared the daily bombardments of Israeli forces. Airstrikes, drone attacks, and tank advances are a daily reality. Massacres have devastated Palestinian lives throughout the Gaza Strip.

Gaza lies in ruins. Even if the Israeli military assault ended immediately, the impact of such devastation and destruction would be a colossal feat to rebuild and recover from. The physical and mental health consequences of this war will last for decades.

Continuing Blockade

Israeli blockade of Gaza and deliberate obstruction of humanitarian aid have virtually destroyed the resources necessary to meet basic human needs, turning survival into a daily struggle.

The systematic deprivation of aid, including food, water, electricity, and medical supplies, has led to preventable deaths, malnutrition, and profound trauma that will scar the people of Gaza for generations. By preventing access to food and stifling meaningful access to water, medicine, and humanitarian supplies, Israel's genocidal campaign has created a famine situation in Gaza.

The Israeli-American food distribution program in Gaza, dubbed the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and launched in late May, deliberately degrades Palestinians, forcing them to choose between starving to death or risking their lives for minimal food. With more than 1,000 people killed and nearly 11,000 injured while searching for food, this program is a massacre disguised as humanitarian aid and must be immediately dismantled.

MSF denounced this plan as an "orchestrated murder" after treating more than 1,300 wounded people, including 71 children with gunshot wounds, and 28 deaths in seven weeks in just two clinics in southern Gaza.

Population Displacement

More than 714,000 people, a third of Gaza's population, have been displaced in the past three months. Today, more than 87% of the Gaza Strip is under displacement orders, forcing 2.1 million people to seek refuge in just 12% of the territory (OCHA).

Since the beginning of the war, Palestinians have been forcibly displaced several times, with many fleeing for their lives, including many MSF staff.

In 2024, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) stepped up its activities in Palestine to help people injured and displaced in Israel's bloody war.

Decades of repression and conflict exploded on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israel. In response, Israel launched massive attacks on Gaza. The bombing campaign spread across the Middle East and the south with increasing brutality.

We call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to prevent further deaths in Gaza and allow the delivery of desperately needed humanitarian aid.

MSF Gaza report: This is not aid. This is orchestrated killing

This is not aid

A new MSF report, titled “This is not aid. This is orchestrated killing,” documents the horrors MSF staff witnessed at two clinics that regularly receive mass influxes of victims following violence at sites run by the GHF, an Israeli-American proxy that has militarized food distribution.

Between June 7 and July 24, 2025, 1,380 injured people, 28 of whom were already dead upon arrival, were admitted to MSF clinics in Al-Mawasi and Al-Attar, in southern Gaza, in close proximity to GHF-run distribution sites. During these seven weeks, our teams treated 71 children for gunshot wounds, including 25 under the age of 15. Lacking alternatives, starving families often send their teenage sons into this deadly environment, as they are often the only ones still physically able to make the journey.

Patterns of Attacks and Obstructions to Healthcare in the West Bank

The report, titled "Inflicting Harm and Denying Care - Patterns of Attacks and Obstructions of Healthcare in the West Bank," published on February 6, 2025, describes how the Israeli military and settlers have escalated acts of extreme violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

The report documents prolonged and violent Israeli military incursions and increasingly severe movement restrictions, all of which severely hamper access to essential services, particularly healthcare.

According to OCHA, between October 7, 2023, and August 4, 2025, 995 Palestinians—including at least 210 children—were killed in Occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Gaza before and after 7 October

This documentary was filmed in May 2023. It illustrates some of the challenges that existed prior to the full-scale war that began on 7 October. Today, that healthcare system no longer exists, having been systematically dismantled by bombardments, fighting, murders, abuses and arrests of healthcare professionals and patients.

Before 7 October 2023, MSF was providing medical and psychological assistance to people affected by the long-running conflict in Palestine.
