Following the devastating passage of Hurricane Melissa, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) deployed emergency teams to Jamaica in early November to assess the needs of isolated communities and support the country’s heavily damaged health system.

From Brussels, MSF sent medical supplies, essential items, and tarpaulins on November 5.

  • In Saint James Parish, MSF is focusing its efforts on repairing Cornwall Regional Hospital—including the roof, operating room, and maternity ward—and on restoring access to water. The organization also plans to distribute medical supplies and support three local health centers
  • In Saint Elizabeth Parish, MSF is supporting three health centers and temporary health posts, ensuring the distribution of drinking water, medical supplies, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, kitchen utensils, and plastic sheeting. Teams are also providing psychosocial support and internet connectivity for isolated residents, especially in the community of Slipe, where water trucking began on November 5.
