Tony Tony Chopper, the beloved character from “ONE PIECE” (a manga series created by Eiichiro Oda and published by Shueisha), has been named an official supporter of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to help raise awareness of our humanitarian medical activities worldwide.
Chopper’s dream is ‘to become a doctor who can cure everyone around the world’. As the ship’s doctor for the Straw Hats, Chopper’s unwavering commitment to helping anyone suffering from injury or illness during their adventure has touched the hearts of readers and viewers worldwide. This belief resonates deeply with the principles of MSF.MSF is an international, independent medical humanitarian organisation that provides emergency medical care to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. Operating in more than 70 countries, MSF delivers lifesaving assistance to people in crisis regardless of ethnicity, religion, nationality, or political affiliation. MSF’s actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of independence, neutrality, and impartiality. Chopper seems to embody the principles and values of MSF. This shared stance and philosophy led to this collaboration. This initiative aims to broaden understanding and interest in MSF’s humanitarian medical activities.

Eiichiro Oda releases new illustration of ‘MSF Chopper’
ONE PIECE creator Eiichiro Oda has released a new illustration of Chopper. Chopper runs wearing an MSF logo T-shirt, a stethoscope around his neck, and an MSF flag raised high. His bulging emergency medical backpack is modelled after one actually used by MSF staff. Chopper’s running form evokes a sense of kinship with MSF’s ‘Running Person’ logo, which embodies the spirit of MSF.

Official introduction booklet
An MSF official introduction booklet, 'What is Médecins Sans Frontières?', featuring Chopper as the navigator, is currently in production. It will allow readers to learn about MSF’s activities together with Chopper.

Quotes
Dr. Javid Abdelmoneim, International President of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
“Dear Chopper, thank you for joining MSF to save lives around the world! The belief in helping those in need of medical care, regardless of ethnicity or nationality, is something Chopper and MSF share,” says Dr Javid Abdelmoneim, International President of MSF. “Please visit our projects and share what you see with many people. MSF needs many supporters. We hope that through Chopper, the number of people joining and supporting MSF will grow around the world.”
Hiroyuki Nakano, editor-in-chief of ONE PIECE media
“I am truly delighted that Chopper, the doctor of the Straw Hats, has been given the opportunity to play an active role on the global stage. He is originally a reindeer who became a ‘Human-Reindeer’ after eating the ‘Human-Human Fruit’. Yet he dedicates himself to treating anyone who is injured or ill—whether human or animal, friend or foe. Because of this compassion and determination, I believe he is a perfect fit to serve as a supporter of Médecins Sans Frontières, an organisation that provides medical care on the front lines around the world, transcending borders, race, and religion,” continues Nakano. “We hope you will support his activities. Congratulations on your appointment, Chopper! …Hey, are you looking a little happy?”
Ikue Ōtani, voice of Chopper in the anime
“Congratulations, Chopper, on becoming an official supporter of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). I’m thrilled that Chopper, the ship’s doctor of the Straw Hats, will be supporting the activities of MSF. This year is Chopper’s year, so be sure to watch both the live-action and the anime!”
Seiko Ito, Japanese author and creator
“I am delighted that MSF has gained such a wonderful ally. I have been covering the organisation’s activities since 2016, visiting eight countries or regions to date, and compiling my experiences into books. In this increasingly chaotic world, I intend to continue observing the work of those who come together around the core values of medical care and humanitarianism—both myself and Chopper.”
