On Sunday, 28 September 2025, the Luxembourg section of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) joined the Luxembourg Coalition for Palestine in a large and historic march through the streets of Luxembourg City to denounce war crimes, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. MSF is a member of this Coalition and co-organised the march.
According to estimates from the organisers and the police, more than 5,000 people responded to the call issued by the coalition, which brings together around fifty NGOs (including MSF, Amnesty International, and Handicap International), associations, members of civil society, with the support of trade unions and several political parties.
At the heart of Place Clairefontaine, Dr. Engy Ali, President of MSF Luxembourg, reminded the crowd: “The situation in Gaza is apocalyptic, beyond anything we can imagine. The population is starving.” Her words echoed the testimony of Caroline Willemen, MSF project coordinator in Gaza, who was recently evacuated after two months on the ground.
Dr. Ali then highlighted the organisation’s commitment:
MSF has been present in the Gaza Strip for almost 37 years and today has more than 1,100 colleagues in the Gaza Strip. But never has our organisation witnessed such a situation. As doctors, nurses, and humanitarian workers, we are doing everything we can to care for our patients, but we cannot stop this genocide.”
Finally, she issued a direct call to the authorities:
It is now time for governments to act to stop this genocide. Even a small country can act. Our European governments must demand that Israel protect humanitarian workers and allow the unrestricted entry of medicines and medical supplies. Governments and world leaders can stop this genocide — if they decide to. It is time to demand that they act. NOW.”
During the mobilisation, the MSF team and its supporters chanted the messages of MSF’s global campaign launched on 15 September. Built around the message: “Doctors cannot stop a genocide. Our leaders can,” the campaign urges states, including Luxembourg, to take concrete measures in line with their international obligations.
MSF calls on Luxembourg to act urgently and with all its means to:
- Stop ethnic cleansing and forced displacement
- Secure an immediate and lasting ceasefire
- Lift the siege and allow immediate, unhindered delivery of large-scale, independent humanitarian aid
- End attacks on medical facilities and healthcare workers
- Dismantle the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation
- Authorise medical evacuations for life-threatening emergencies
- End the transfer of weapons that kill and maim our patients
