The photo exhibition, aiming at better understand decades of fortuitous or voluntary collaborations between Magnum Photos and MSF, will be open at the Meliá Hotel until the end of March 2022, with free access from 8am to 11pm.

The opening counted with participation of MSF International President Dr Christos Christou and Giulietta Palumbo, Production Manager for Magnum Photos Agency. “For more than 40 years, Magnum photographers have been documenting MSF’s actions across the world.”, said Palumbo.

Combining the MSF and Magnum ethic has enabled us to remain transparent and accurate. Our common values allow both of us to keep working after all those years, defending our mission and the population we support. Giulietta Palumbo, Production Manager for Magnum Photos Agency

Since 50 years, MSF teams and Magnum photographers cross paths on the same events – war zones, humanitarian crises, emergencies – and on the same values: ethics and independence. This exhibition therefore offers a selection of 50 photos from the Magnum archives, complemented by a series of five new productions that bear witness to MSF’s ongoing actions and the reality of today's humanitarian crises.

From the Biafran war, the crisis that led to the creation of MSF, to the today reality of refugees, it is for and foremost a matter of human stories. It is a matter of how people are dealing with the consequences of conflicts, epidemics or natural disasters, and how, from one moment to another, their lives are disrupted or devastated.

By treating and assisting the populations hit by crises, MSF teams have always been first-hand witness of what the populations were and are living, away from everybody’s’ eyes. By freezing, fixing and bringing the picture to the international audience, Magnum photographers also bear witness of the communities’ strength, of the struggles they face and of their resilience, which will allow them to rebuild a common future.

This opening was held on the framework of the events held by MSF Luxembourg to mark the 50th anniversary of the association.
