The Role of Research in Humanitarian Action - An Open Forum
Did you know that Médecins Sans Frontières also carries out research to improve the way humanitarian operations are conducted?
On Saturday, March 28th, MSF Luxembourg invites you - students, professionals, and anyone interested - to Neimënster for a forum dedicated to understanding the role of Operational Research (OR) in humanitarian action.
The event will offer an approachable overview of how OR supports decision‑making in the field operations and contributes to more effective medical and logistical responses. Presentations will highlight concrete examples and real‑life challenges drawn from MSF’s operational contexts.
An Interactive Perspective
This event is meant to enable interaction, through panel discussions and Q&A sessions, bringing together a complementary perspective of researchers from MSF and from institutions in Luxembourg.
These exchanges will offer a unique opportunity to explore different approaches to research in humanitarian settings. Together, we will examine how context, realities on the ground, and the vulnerabilities of diverse populations shape research practices across the globe. You will also gain insight into how various institutions generate not only practical, project‑focused knowledge but also contribute to shaping global policies.
During the forum, you will have the chance to step into the shoes of a researcher. Through case‑based scenarios, you will explore how data, field observations, and operational constraints influence decision‑making in humanitarian contexts.
You will also be able to engage directly with MSF researchers and colleagues working in project operations, learning from their experiences and perspectives.
Come and join us to discover a lesser‑known yet key aspect of MSF’s work!

Let's meet for an interactive conference on operational research in LuxOR unit!
