What is the MSF Emergency Fund?
The Emergency Fund enables us to respond as quickly as possible to emergencies, whether they be natural disasters, conflicts or epidemics.
In an emergency, the first 72 hours are critical: this is the phase when lives can be saved if medical care is available. That is why it is vital to reach our patients as quickly as possible, with ready-to-use response kits. The RISK kit (or Rapid Intervention Surgical Kit) is one such kit. It consists of 20 boxes containing the equipment needed to treat the first patients and can be deployed anywhere in the world. With this kit, a six-person MSF team can perform five major surgical procedures a day.
